In response to the Ahmedabad crash involving an Air India Boeing 787, India’s aviation regulator DGCA has ordered mandatory inspections of fuel switch safety systems on all India-registered Boeing 787 and 737 aircraft by July 21, 2025. The directive follows revelations from the preliminary report that both engines lost fuel supply seconds after takeoff, sparking confusion in the cockpit. Though mechanical failure was ruled out, the investigation pointed to possible issues with the fuel switch locking mechanism. The DGCA’s move aims to ensure flight safety and avoid recurrence of such incidents, particularly after earlier FAA warnings about the same concern.
